Lauren Belfer

Lauren Belfer is an Emmy-nominated filmmaker and producer based in Los Angeles, CA.

She is the co-director, lead producer, and writer of WRESTLE, an Emmy-nominated feature documentary that tells the story of four Alabama teenagers attempting to overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles through one historic wrestling season. A NY Times Critic’s Pick, the film was released theatrically by Oscilloscope Laboratories and closed the 2019 spring season of Independent Lens on PBS. WRESTLE, hailed as “superb” by the LA Times and “vital” by The Hollywood Reporter, is an intimate portrait that prompts much-needed conversations about race, privilege, class, and education in America.

Lauren was lucky to spend six years bringing ROLLING THUNDER REVUE: A BOB DYLAN STORY BY MARTIN SCORSESE to life, shepherding it from its earliest stages through to its Netflix release in summer 2019.

She works frequently with Michael Moore, beginning with his Oscar-shortlisted WHERE TO INVADE NEXT through to his most recent film, FAHRENHEIT 11/9. She also produced the narrative film AFTER LOUIE, starring Alan Cumming, the feature-length documentary HOTLINE, and was the archival producer on TICKLING GIANTS.

Lauren also directs and showruns documentary series for networks and platforms including Netflix, MTV and TLC.
